A global village, as defined
by the oxford dictionary is the world considered as a single community linked
by telecommunications. One can communicate over a distance by cable, telegraph,
telephone or broadcasting. Also
known as world village, it is the societal, cultural and community
effects of telecommunications, and is often used as a metaphor to describe the
Internet and the World Wide Web.
It has an increased speed of communication and
the ability of people to read about, spread, and reacts to global news quickly,
it has forced us to become more involved with one another from various social
groups and countries around the world and to be more aware of our global
responsibilities.
It is a fact that
you can communicate with anyone with an access to the Internet nowadays and you
can watch any conceivable news station, you can share opinions and do other
things...We are informed in real time about some far away disaster or war,
about other humans sufferings, about terrorist acts and everything else. All
said: this is a global village in which the media and the journalists are
trying to bring us together as well as the scientists and the politicians.
Rapid
communication over large distances and the same with transport of goods has in
a economic sense created a global village. In a social sense it is a village in
which, ar best no-one knows their neighbors and at worst, backstabbing and
robbing your neighbors is the norm
It means we are
so much in contact with each other through the Web that it was like living in a
village 100 years ago. The world is so connected these days. It now looks like
we're all being brought back together.
Technology has
made things become globalised. Everything is now done online, businesses,
education, shopping, chatting etc. this has also made people break cultural
norms. Take the people from the Arab world, they were the reserved type of
people, they only talked to people they knew and had something in common with
i.e. sharing the same interests. But since the advent of technology, they have
been brought to limelight, they talk to people the way they want even if they
don’t know the person.
Technology has
also made things easy and faster. Take for example you want to send a message
to someone on the other end of the world, you don’t need to write a letter, go
to the post office, buy stamp and post the letter, and wait for the reply
whenever it comes. Now you only need to pick up your phone or laptop, type your
message and just click send!
